Gombe Govt Approves N1.3bn for New Deputy Governor’s Office

The Gombe State Government has approved the construction of a new office for the Deputy Governor at a cost of ₦1.337 billion.

The Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transportation, Usman Maijama’a Kallamu, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.

According to Kallamu, the decision to build a new complex was taken because the current office is located far from the Government House, making coordination difficult.

He explained that the new office would be sited at the old Gombe Jewel Hotel, beside the Government House, where new offices for the state’s emirs and chiefs are also under construction.

The commissioner noted that the move aligns with the state’s ongoing infrastructure renewal programme, which includes the reconstruction of the Government House, the construction of a new State House of Assembly complex, a State High Court, and a modern Secretariat known as the “Three Arm Zone.”

Other Projects Approved

Kallamu further announced that the council also approved the construction of a modern state fire service station at the cost of ₦1.275 billion.

He explained that the project was necessary because the current fire service shares office space with the local government veterinary department, which he described as inadequate for their operations.

In addition, the government approved ₦3.5 billion for the completion of five mega colleges, an upward review of the initial contract sum. The additional funds, he said, were to upgrade the structures into two-storey buildings to accommodate the rising number of students.

The commissioner assured that the colleges would be completed and commissioned by January 2026.

Similarly, the council approved ₦461 million for the construction of a Police Divisional Office at the Shehu Abubakar District in Gombe metropolis.
