The tranquil Smokin Hills Golf Resort in Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, was transformed into a hub of excitement last weekend as Ojo Ilesanmi of Smokin Hills Golf Club and Opawunmi Afolasade of Ikeja Golf Club emerged winners of the men’s and ladies’ categories respectively at the 2025 Elizabeth Wuraola Ojo Toyota Golf Tournament.
Over 80 golfers from across Nigeria competed in the prestigious event, which was graced by Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Alara of Ilara-Mokin, Oba Abiodun Adefehinti, and the Founder of Elizade Group and Toyota Nigeria Limited, Chief Michael Ade Ojo, OON.
Ilesanmi, who began his golfing journey as a caddy before turning full-time amateur, produced a gross score of 85 and a net of 69 to claim his first-ever title at the tournament. His triumph, he said, was a dream come true.
> “It was very challenging when I started,” Ilesanmi shared. “I want to thank Mr. Muyiwa Adegbenro for his constant encouragement. Coming from being a caddy to becoming the reigning amateur champion is truly a golden moment.”
In the ladies’ division, Afolasade, playing off a handicap of 14, recorded a gross of 82 and a net of 68 to secure the top spot.

Mrs. Taiwo Ade-Ojo of Smokin Hills Golf Club received the Most Amiable Woman award of the tournament.
In the special prizes, Adebisi Abdulrasheed of Ikeja Golf Club (handicap 14) won the men’s Longest Drive, while Smokin Hills Captain, Adegbenro Gboye, claimed Nearest to the Pin. Among the veterans, Iyare Feceers emerged winner ahead of runner-up Adebayo Kunle.
The ladies’ Longest Drive award went to Osmond Diana, while Yusuf Grace of Ekiti Golf Club (handicap 9, gross 88) and Oluwadare Aminat of Cross Creek won additional prizes.
Speaking on behalf of Toyota (Nigeria) Limited, Managing Director, Mr. Kunle Ade-Ojo, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sports development and community impact.
