AFG Aviation Ireland Limited, a leading global player in commercial aircraft leasing and asset management, has confirmed the successful lease of two Bombardier CRJ1000 regional jets to Cally Air, the state-owned airline of Cross River State, Nigeria.
The aircraft, identified by Manufacturer Serial Numbers 19004 and 19009, were recently acquired by AFG from Regional One and subsequently leased to Cally Air under a finance lease arrangement. This development follows an earlier announcement by the Cross River State Government regarding its purchase of the two aircraft, which were then handed over to ValueJet under a strategic partnership.
Under the terms of the sublease, ValueJet will handle all operational responsibilities for the CRJ1000s using its Air Operator Certificate. In a statement, ValueJet confirmed that it would manage and operate the jets on behalf of Cally Air, ensuring seamless service delivery.
AFG Aviation’s Founder and CEO, Christian Nuehlen, described the agreement as a significant step in AFG’s expansion into the African aviation market and in Cally Air’s fleet growth strategy. He noted that the fuel-efficient jets would boost regional connectivity and enhance access to new destinations across West Africa. Senior Vice President of Commercial, Christian Hatje, echoed this sentiment, saying the collaboration reflects AFG’s confidence in Africa’s aviation potential. AFG further noted that the partnership aligns with Cally Air’s goal of becoming a major regional carrier, while contributing to economic growth, trade, and tourism in the region.
