The Yobe State Government has begun relocating 250 households from Garin Kolo in Nangere Local Government Area following severe floods that destroyed homes and contaminated water sources. The relocation, flagged off on Tuesday under the directive of Governor Mai Mala Buni, is aimed at safeguarding the lives and dignity of displaced families.

Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) revealed that 22 temporary shelters have already been provided to accommodate more than 200 people, with additional facilities underway.

“To ensure the welfare of the victims, a water reservoir has been installed, five emergency toilets constructed, and an ambulance deployed for medical emergencies,” he said, adding that security personnel from the NSCDC and Police are on ground to maintain safety. Vulnerable persons requiring treatment have also been referred to the General Hospital in Nangere.

Each household has received food baskets, with assurances that the support will continue in the coming days. Governor Buni reiterated his commitment to mobilizing resources to guarantee that every affected family is relocated with dignity and provided with hope for recovery.

The YOSEMA official expressed gratitude to the Emir of Tikau, Nangere LGA authorities, the State Ministry of Health, RUWASA, security agencies, and other partners for their collaborative efforts. He also appealed to donors, humanitarian organizations, and the public to support the initiative.
