The Federal Government has approved an upward review of passport application fees, with the new rates set to take effect from September 1, 2024.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the spokesman of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), A.S. Akinlabi, explained that the adjustment was necessary to maintain the quality and integrity of the new Nigerian Standard Passport, which will be fully implemented from September 1, 2025.

Under the new structure, a 32-page passport with a five-year validity will now cost ₦100,000, while a 64-page passport with a ten-year validity will cost ₦200,000. The revised fees apply only to applications made within Nigeria.

However, application fees for Nigerians abroad remain unchanged at $150 for a 32-page passport (five-year validity) and $230 for a 64-page passport (ten-year validity). The NIS assured that it remains committed to balancing improved service delivery with affordable access for citizens.
