Kano State Government has launched a fresh investigation into the alleged sale of the multi-million naira Nigerian Meat and Allied Products (NIMAP) Abattoir, reportedly auctioned under the administration of former governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Ganduje, who also served as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is already facing multiple corruption charges over alleged illegal sales of public assets. The NIMAP facility, located in Chalawa Industrial Area and established during the tenure of former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was designed to boost revenue generation and create jobs for Kano residents.
Speaking at the inauguration of an 11-member committee to investigate the matter, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Faruq Ibrahim, said the probe was necessary to ensure accountability and safeguard critical public infrastructure. The SSG, who represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, alleged that the abattoir was “illegally auctioned for selfish interests.”
The committee, chaired by former Chairman of the Kano State Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado, has been mandated to trace, recover, and recommend sanctions against individuals found culpable in the transaction.
“The present administration owes it a duty to protect public assets and recover those wrongly disposed of. We expect the committee to discharge its assignment diligently, without fear or favour,” Ibrahim said.
In his response, Rimin-Gado assured that the panel would carry out its duties with integrity and submit its findings within three weeks.
