UAE leaders have paid tribute to the contributions of Emirati women as the nation marked Emirati Women’s Day, celebrating their role in shaping the country’s progress over the past five decades.
President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed highlighted the enduring link between the nation’s development and the achievements of women.
“The progress of the UAE has always been closely tied to the achievements of Emirati women and their pivotal role in strengthening our communities and contributing to our nation’s development,” he said in a statement on X.
He noted that the launch of the Mother of the Nation 50:50 Vision reflects the country’s commitment to equality and partnership, adding: “As we celebrate Emirati Women’s Day, the launch of the Mother of the Nation 50:50 Vision reaffirms our commitment to advancing together – hand in hand – in partnership towards the future.”
Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, described women as “the soul of the homeland”.
“We celebrate the woman as a mother, sister, daughter, and wife,” he wrote. “We celebrate her as a nurturer of generations, a planter of values, and a partner in the journey of development.”
Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, also extended his congratulations, praising the vital role women continue to play in family life, society, and national development.
A Day of Legacy and Vision
This year’s celebrations carry the theme “Hand in Hand, We Celebrate 50 Years”, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the founding of the General Women’s Union, established in 1975. The theme underscores both the legacy of women’s achievements and the importance of their continued partnership in shaping the UAE’s future.
Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation, reaffirmed her belief in women’s role as the “heartbeat of society” and the foundation of sustainable progress. She said women’s empowerment was central to development, social cohesion and global competitiveness.
Since its establishment, the General Women’s Union has been a driving force behind women’s rights and empowerment in the UAE, guiding progress across education, public service, and leadership.
As the nation marked a decade since the introduction of Emirati Women’s Day, leaders and citizens alike reflected on the country’s journey and the growing role of women as equal partners in shaping its next 50 years.
