Omokri Slams Peter Obi Over Silence on Simon Ekpa’s Conviction in Finland

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has taken a swipe at Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for keeping silent on the conviction of Simon Ekpa, a Nigerian-born Finnish separatist.

Ekpa, 40, was sentenced to six years in prison by the Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland after being found guilty of terrorism-related offences, aggravated tax fraud, incitement to commit crimes for terrorist purposes, and breaches of the Lawyers Act. The court also ordered that he remain in custody.

According to the judgment, Ekpa sought to advance the independence of the Biafra region in Nigeria’s South-East through unlawful activities between August 2021 and November 2024.

Reacting via a post on X, Omokri accused Obi of hypocrisy, recalling how the former Anambra governor once called for the arrest of Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, following his clash with ValueJet. He contrasted this with Obi’s support for Nnamdi Kanu and his silence on Ekpa’s case, arguing that if the conviction had happened in Nigeria, Obi would have accused President Bola Tinubu of ethnic bias.
