The Abia State Police Command says it has commenced investigations into a viral video showing a traffic officer allegedly attempting to extort money from a commercial tricycle (Keke) operator.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the officer in question has been identified and the case referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for proper investigation.
Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, assured members of the public of the Command’s zero tolerance for unprofessional conduct, stressing that the Force will not condone acts capable of tarnishing its image.
“The Abia State Police Command is aware of a trending video on Facebook showing a traffic officer alleged to be extorting a Keke rider,” the statement read.
“The officer involved has been identified, and investigation into the incident is ongoing at the State CID.”
The Commissioner further reaffirmed the commitment of the Command to professionalism, service delivery, and respect for the rule of law in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.
He also appealed to residents of the state to continue cooperating with the police as efforts are made to strengthen accountability and build public trust.
