The political atmosphere in Abia North took a dramatic twist over the weekend following the circulation of a communiqué purportedly issued after a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders’ meeting held on August 30, 2025, at the country home of Senator Mao Ohuabunwa.
The communiqué, expected to highlight unity and chart a new course for the PDP in Abia North, instead triggered controversy over its fifth item, which appeared to dismiss the achievements of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.
Reacting, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa categorically distanced himself from the controversial section, describing it as a mischievous insertion aimed at portraying him as being at odds with the Otti administration.
In a statement issued by his media office, Ohuabunwa stressed that he neither authored, endorsed, nor supported any claim suggesting that Governor Otti’s performance was not in line with the state’s financial inflows.
“Such insinuations are a gross misrepresentation of what transpired at the meeting,” he clarified, noting that the gathering was marked by camaraderie, forward-looking discussions, and a shared commitment to repositioning the PDP.
The former senator maintained that his brand of politics is anchored on constructive engagement and progressive collaboration, not bitterness or the denigration of leaders across party lines.
He therefore urged the public to disregard the misleading communiqué, insisting that the contentious portion neither reflected his views nor captured the true spirit of the Abia North PDP meeting.
Observers say the clarification shields Ohuabunwa from perceptions of antagonism toward the Otti administration and reinforces his image as a statesman committed to peace, unity, and prosperity in Abia politics.
Meanwhile, political analysts believe the controversial insertion may have been orchestrated by rivals bent on destabilizing both the PDP and Ohuabunwa’s political standing ahead of future contests.
For now, Ohuabunwa has reiterated his dedication to the progress and stability of Abia North, Abia State, and Nigeria at large, pledging to uphold the principles of responsible leadership.
