The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to scaling up Nigeria’s gas output, targeting 10 billion standard cubic feet (SCF) of daily production by 2030.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, disclosed this during a strategic meeting with the management of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) on Thursday. The engagement focused on production expansion, investment opportunities, and ongoing reforms in the sector.
Edun highlighted recent milestones, including the Deepwater deal with TotalEnergies, as proof of Nigeria’s progress towards creating a competitive and investor-friendly gas market.
“The President has stabilised the economy and opened up fresh opportunities in energy and manufacturing. As we implement comprehensive tax reforms, stakeholder input will be critical to shaping a more attractive business landscape,” he said.
He further assured industry players that reforms such as digital trade systems would enhance transparency, streamline oversight, and eliminate inefficiencies.
NLNG Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Philip Mshelbila, briefed the Minister on improved operations, citing stronger gas supply, enhanced security along the Trans-Niger pipeline, and capacity utilisation now exceeding 70 percent. He also pointed to progress on the Bodo-Bonny Road project while urging government support for an extension of the East-West highway under the tax credit scheme.
According to him, the meeting represents a milestone in Nigeria’s drive to unlock its full gas potential and achieve the 2030 production target.
