Wike Issues 30-Day Ultimatum, Slams ₦5m Penalty on Abuja Land Use Defaulters

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has given a 30-day ultimatum to property owners who violated the Land Use policy in Abuja, directing them to pay a penalty fee of ₦5 million each. The ultimatum takes effect from September 10, 2025.

In a public notice, Wike identified several streets across Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, and Garki districts where landowners were found to have defaulted. He emphasized that the penalty applies to allottees and title holders who altered the approved use of their properties without authorization, thereby breaching the terms of their Right of Occupancy.

The affected locations include Gana Street and Usuma Street in Maitama; Yakubu Gowon Crescent in Asokoro; Aminu Kano Crescent and Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent in Wuse II; Ladoke Akintola Boulevard, Gimbiya Street, and Onitsha Street in Garki II; and multiple streets in Garki I such as Ogbomosho Street, Lafia Close, Yola Street, Abriba Close, Danbatta Street, Ringim Close, and Ilorin Street.

“All affected allottees/holders of properties who, without approval, converted the land use of their properties on the above listed streets/locations are hereby given thirty (30) days from Wednesday, 10th September 2025, to pay a PENALTY/VIOLATION FEE of Five million Naira (₦5,000,000.00),” the notice read.

The minister further directed defaulters to visit the FCTA Department of Land Administration with the original copies of their documents to collect letters of conveyance of approval after payment.
