Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has announced plans to move the Ministry of Agriculture to a more conducive location in a bid to boost efficiency and output.
The Governor made this known on September 23 during an unscheduled visit to the ministry’s headquarters at Bank Road, Umuahia, shortly after swearing in two new commissioners and a Special Adviser on Agriculture in a minor cabinet reshuffle.
On arrival, he was conducted around the premises by the Commissioner for Lands, Hon. Chaka Chukwumerije, and the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Cliff Agbaeze. Expressing dissatisfaction with the current facilities, Otti said the ministry deserves a more suitable environment to enable workers deliver on the mandate of ensuring food sufficiency in Abia and beyond.
The Governor revealed that the ministry would be relocated to Umudike, where the Abia State University’s Faculty of Agriculture is situated. He added that plans were also underway to move the university’s Faculty of Law back to its permanent site in Uturu.
Governor Otti directed the Commissioner for Agriculture to immediately assess the proposed site. The ministry’s staff welcomed the development with excitement and applauded the Governor’s visit to their office.
