Former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has issued a stern warning to newly called lawyers, urging them to demonstrate the highest level of professional ethics and stating that the legal community will not tolerate misconduct.

Speaking as Chairman of the Body of Benchers at the 2025 Call to Bar ceremony in Abuja, Justice Ariwoola reminded the 4,437 new wigs that their admission is a lifelong call to “integrity, service, and discipline.”

“While this is a moment of celebration, it also imposes a lifelong responsibility to uphold the rule of law,” he stated, charging them to protect the nobility of a profession held to a higher standard by society.

Earlier, the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma, SAN, presented the successful candidates. He confirmed that all had been thoroughly trained in both learning and character.

A breakdown of the results showed impressive achievements: 72 candidates graduated with First Class, 608 with Second Class Upper, 2,098 with Second Class Lower, and 1,651 with a Pass.

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including the Director of the Chris Igbokwe Foundation, Christian Igbokwe Ebube. Among the newly called lawyers was Barrister Chisom Blessing Torty.
