MTN Nigeria has announced that its Dabengwa Data Centre in Lagos has been awarded the Tier III Certification for Constructed Facility by the Uptime Institute, marking a significant step in its mission to strengthen Nigeria’s digital backbone.
Commissioned in July, the facility is among the largest prefabricated modular data centres in the country, built with 96 prefabricated containers in its initial phase. It features AI-powered energy optimisation and hybrid cloud capabilities designed to deliver high reliability and efficiency for enterprise clients.
MTN Nigeria Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola, described the certification as proof of the company’s commitment to world-class infrastructure. He noted that the recognition underscores the strategic efforts and collaboration of MTN’s teams and partners in aligning with global best practices.
The Tier III standard, internationally recognised for reliability, guarantees multiple independent power and cooling pathways, enabling maintenance without service interruptions. With 99.982% expected availability—equivalent to just 1.6 hours of downtime annually—the certification makes Dabengwa one of only four facilities in Nigeria to achieve both Tier III Design Documentation and Constructed Facility certifications.
As the first of MTN Nigeria’s technical centres to earn this recognition, the Dabengwa Data Centre reinforces the company’s Ambition 2025 Strategy, which prioritises resilient digital infrastructure to support Nigeria’s digital economy. MTN said it will continue investing in innovative, future-ready infrastructure to empower businesses, drive digital inclusion, and sustain its leadership in enterprise solutions.
