President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commiserated with the government and people of Kogi State over the tragic boat accident that occurred on Tuesday in Ibaji Local Government Area, claiming several lives.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said the victims, mostly traders, were travelling from Ibaji to Ilushi market in Edo State when the accident happened.

Tinubu described the incident as “shocking and deeply unfortunate,” lamenting that the victims lost their lives while striving to earn a decent living.

The President praised the first responders at the scene and urged federal, state, and local emergency agencies to intensify rescue and relief efforts for survivors and families of the deceased.

He further called on water transport operators to prioritise safety standards above financial gains in order to prevent avoidable tragedies.

President Tinubu prayed for the repose of the departed souls and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
