Precious Moses, mother of 21-month-old Chimamanda, has made a heartfelt appeal for financial support to save her daughter’s life as the toddler battles a severe heart condition.
Chimamanda was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia—a rare congenital heart defect that disrupts normal blood and oxygen flow. The condition leaves her constantly weak, breathless, and unable to engage in typical childhood activities without collapsing.
“She wants to walk and play like other children, but she can’t,” Precious said tearfully. “Whenever she cries or exerts herself, she becomes extremely weak and struggles to breathe. Sometimes, she just collapses, and we rush her to the hospital. The doctors say her oxygen level is very low, and without surgery, she might not survive.”
Doctors at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, have recommended an urgent open-heart surgery—the only life-saving option. A team of foreign specialists is scheduled to perform the procedure at Dame Irene Memorial Hospital, Anambra State, between the first and third week of October.
The surgery is estimated to cost ₦6 million, excluding medications and post-operative care. For the Moses family, raising such an amount has proven nearly impossible. Precious, who had to abandon her catering business to care for her daughter, said the condition has drained their finances and affected her husband’s job.
“Each time there’s an emergency, my husband leaves his clients to rush us to the hospital. We’ve spent all our savings just to keep Chimamanda alive,” she explained. “Sometimes, doctors have to bleed her to reduce the blood thickness caused by her condition. It’s heartbreaking to watch, and it’s happening more often now.”
Living in Kubwa, Abuja, Precious described the experience as emotionally exhausting.
“I was so full of joy when I got pregnant with her—my first child,” she said. “But instead of enjoying motherhood, I spend every day fighting to keep her alive. It’s mentally draining, and doctors keep reminding us that only the surgery can save her.”
The family is now appealing to kind-hearted Nigerians for help. Donations can be made to Chimamanda Fedora Moses, UBA account number: 2371265363.
“We are pleading with Nigerians to help us save Chimamanda,” Precious said, her voice trembling. “She is a fighter and deserves the chance to live.”
