The Katsina State Government has launched a fleet of hybrid buses as part of Governor Dikko Radda’s initiative to modernise public transportation and promote eco-friendly mobility across the state.
Hybrid-electric buses combine an electric motor with a smaller internal combustion engine, offering a cleaner and more energy-efficient mode of transport.
The unveiling marks a major milestone in the governor’s drive for technological innovation, coming one year after he led a delegation to China to forge partnerships with leading manufacturers in the agricultural and transport sectors.
At the official launch held at the Abuja facility of Woerka Nigeria Limited, a Chinese engineering firm, President of Ben 10 Equipment Company and project partner, Oshi Bernard, commended Governor Radda for his vision and leadership in driving sustainable development in Katsina.
Describing the governor as “hard-working, focused, and committed,” Bernard said the initiative would significantly improve mobility and living standards in Katsina, Daura, and Funtua, with plans for state-wide expansion. “We sincerely appreciate Governor Radda for giving us the opportunity to deliver a world-class project that benefits the people,” he added.
He explained that the hybrid buses, which run on both fuel and electricity, were designed to reduce carbon emissions, lower fuel costs, and enhance the efficiency of urban transport systems.
Project Manager of Zhong Tong Bus, Wei Yanbin, disclosed that the first phase would include the delivery of 30 city buses, along with the construction of three modern bus terminals and 60 bus stops across major routes.
“The project will officially commence this October and will be completed within six months,” Yanbin said, adding that each bus can accommodate between 45 and 55 passengers and will operate using a dual diesel-electric system to minimise fuel consumption and environmental impact.
