Prominent lawyer and politician, Chief Niyi Aborisade, has declared his readiness to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, promising to deliver governance rooted in the progressive ideals of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Aborisade, the Mogaji of Ajagba Compound in Oke-Ofa Babasale, made this known during his 58th birthday celebration held at his Bodija residence in Ibadan.

The event attracted several dignitaries, including Nigeria’s former Ambassador to the Philippines, Dr. Yemi Farounbi; cultural advocate, Prince Tunde Odunlade; Mr. Wasiu Abiola; and Hon. Yinka Taiwo, a former Oyo PDP chairman. Friends, political associates, and supporters also attended in large numbers.

Speaking to journalists, Aborisade thanked his guests for their loyalty and friendship, describing their presence as a great honour. He also commended the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for a successful state congress and congratulated the new executives, urging them to promote unity ahead of the 2027 elections.

The PDP chieftain further encouraged Nigerians, especially the youth, to engage actively in the democratic process by registering and collecting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that responsible leadership begins with informed voter participation.

On his governorship ambition, Aborisade affirmed his commitment to serve:

> “I am ready to serve the good people of Oyo State. My goal is to deliver the dividends of democracy in the Awolowo tradition, with integrity, selfless service, and genuine concern for the people’s welfare.”

In a goodwill message, Ambassador Farounbi described Aborisade as “a good man with noble intentions,” expressing confidence that his political aspirations would materialize in 2027.
