Chiamaka Nnadozie Shines Again: Super Falcons Star Nominated for 2025 IFFHS World’s Best Goalkeeper Award

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been named among the top ten contenders for the 2025 International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) Women’s World Best Goalkeeper Award, joining an elite list of global football stars.

The Brighton & Hove Albion shot-stopper is the only African player shortlisted for the prestigious honour, standing alongside some of the finest goalkeepers in the women’s game, including Ann-Katrin Berger (Germany/Gotham FC), Cata Coll (Spain/Barcelona), Hannah Hampton (England/Chelsea), and Christiane Endler (Chile/Lyon). Others in contention include Daphne van Domselaar (Netherlands/Arsenal), Katharine Tapia (Colombia/Palmeiras), Lorena Leite (Brazil/Kansas Current), Phallon Tullis-Joyce (USA/Manchester United), and Jennifer Falk (Sweden/Häcken).

Established in 1987, the IFFHS awards celebrate the world’s best football performers annually, with results determined by journalists and experts from over 120 countries. Winners of the 2025 edition will be revealed in December, covering categories such as goalkeepers, players, referees, and coaches.

Nnadozie’s nomination caps off a remarkable year for the 24-year-old. Since joining Brighton, she has been a standout performer in the Women’s Super League (WSL), recently earning a nomination for the October Barclays WSL Save of the Month after a stunning stop against Tottenham’s Eveliina Summanen. She also claimed the Best Goalkeeper award at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and made history as the first Nigerian and African to be nominated for the Women’s Yachine Trophy, where she finished fourth.

Currently shortlisted for the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year — a title she is favoured to win for the third consecutive time — Nnadozie continues to cement her reputation as one of Africa’s most accomplished footballers. A win at the IFFHS awards would make her the first African woman ever to claim the world’s best goalkeeper honour, marking another historic milestone in her flourishing international career.
