Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the 33 Police Station, in collaboration with Agunechemba Security, Nkwelle-Ezunaka Unit, have arrested a 23-year-old female suspect involved in an armed robbery and kidnapping case.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, noting that the suspect was apprehended in the early hours of Tuesday after a joint security operation led to the recovery of a Toyota Highlander SUV stolen from a victim in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
Ikenga explained that the victim was ambushed at Nkwelle GRA Gate by five armed men operating in a Toyota Corolla. The attackers reportedly forced the victim into the boot of his vehicle and drove him to a bush in Umuoji Town, where they dispossessed him of his mobile phone and transferred ₦24 million from his account.
According to the statement, “The operatives, acting on intelligence, tracked the suspects’ movement to Nawfia and later to Ogidi, where the criminals engaged security forces in a gun battle before fleeing. The stolen Toyota Highlander, white in colour with registration number RBC 649 CN, was recovered, while the female accomplice, identified as Okonkwo Onyinye, aged 23, was arrested at the scene.”
Ikenga added that the suspect is assisting police detectives with valuable information to help apprehend the fleeing members of the gang.
He further revealed that the Anambra Police Command has intensified patrols across the state ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election to enhance security and protect residents.
Meanwhile, the Command also repelled a separate armed robbery attack in Ezinifite community, Nnewi South Local Government Area, on Monday. The incident was foiled by a joint team of police officers and Agunechemba vigilante operatives, who engaged the assailants in a gun duel, neutralising one suspect while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
A pump-action gun and the body of the neutralised suspect were recovered from the scene, Ikenga confirmed.
