The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command, has cautioned motorists in Yewa North and its environs to avoid speeding, drunk driving, and other reckless behaviours that could lead to accidents during the ember months.

The Unit Commander, Assistant Corps Commander (ACC) Ramoni Alade, issued the warning during a courtesy visit to the Ayetoro Local Government Secretariat on Wednesday.

Alade explained that the command had launched a public enlightenment campaign titled “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving” to sensitise drivers and other road users on the importance of safe driving practices.

He said the initiative would involve motor park unions, transport operators, and other stakeholders across the state.

> “During the ember months, all road users, especially drivers, must ensure their vehicles are in good condition. They should avoid speeding, check their tyres regularly, and confirm they are not expired,” Alade advised.
“Motorists must also obey traffic regulations and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as it endangers both their lives and those of others.”

Alade added that the FRSC was working closely with other law enforcement agencies, including the Nigeria Police and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), to ensure safer roads throughout the period.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Yewa North Local Government, Dr. Olusola Akinbode, commended the FRSC for the initiative, noting that road crashes tend to increase during the last quarter of the year due to higher vehicular and human movement.

He urged motorists to adopt a safety-first mindset while driving.

> “Drivers should check their vehicles’ water levels, brakes, and other critical parts before hitting the road and ensure these systems remain in good condition,” Akinbode said.
“They must also refrain from speeding, drug use, or any act that could endanger lives.”

Meanwhile, the FRSC in Ogun State is mourning the death of its Chief Route Commander and Public Education Officer, Florence Okpe, who passed away on Tuesday in her hometown in Cross River State after a brief illness.

Confirming her death, Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, said Okpe had been ill for some time and was granted medical leave after receiving treatment in Ogun State.

> “We lost Okpe this morning. Her family has confirmed the sad news. She had been sick for a while and was on medical leave when she travelled home, where she eventually passed away,” Fasakin stated.

The late officer was known for her dedication to road safety advocacy and public enlightenment across Ogun State.
