The new Commissioner of Police for Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has vowed not to tolerate any act capable of threatening peace and security in the state.

Kankarofi made this declaration on Wednesday while addressing journalists at the state command headquarters in Lokoja during his official assumption of duty as the state’s new police chief.

“This is my first day at the command, and it is both historic and significant as it marks my first posting as a Commissioner of Police,” Kankarofi stated. “I want to sincerely thank the Inspector-General of Police for the confidence reposed in me and the opportunity to serve in this capacity.”

He emphasized that his core mandate in Kogi is to protect lives and property, enforce the law, and ensure the maintenance of peace and order across the state.

> “We are operating under the community policing policy, which means I will work closely with community leaders and residents across the state to promote peace and security,” he said.
“I will not condone threats to peace, terrorism, banditry, or any form of criminal activity within Kogi State.”

The Commissioner disclosed that he had received assurances of support and cooperation from Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to effectively deliver on his mandate.

Acknowledging Kogi’s strategic position as an industrial and transit hub, Kankarofi noted that the influx of people and goods into the state requires a proactive and well-coordinated security approach.

> “Kogi is home to several industries, attracting people from different parts of the country. This calls for a robust security framework to safeguard lives, businesses, and investments,” he added.
“As we approach the ember months, I assure residents of maximum protection to enable them to go about their daily activities in safety and peace.”

The CP also urged media practitioners to collaborate with the command in promoting peace and public awareness on security matters.

CP Kankarofi succeeds CP Miller Dantawaye, who has been redeployed to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as the new Commissioner of Police, replacing CP Ajao Saks Adewale, recently reassigned by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
