Kano Governor Orders LGAs to Hold Regular Security Meetings Amid Rising Insecurity

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has ordered all 44 local government councils in the state to convene regular security meetings as part of renewed measures to enhance grassroots intelligence and community vigilance.

The directive, which followed a State Security Council meeting held on Thursday at the Government House, was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

According to the statement, Governor Yusuf emphasized that consistent local security meetings are crucial for early detection of threats, prompt response to emergencies, and stronger collaboration between communities and security agencies.

The governor’s call comes amid growing security concerns, particularly after armed men suspected to be bandits attacked Faruruwa village in Shanono Local Government Area earlier in the week. The assailants, said to have arrived on over 25 motorcycles, killed one person, looted a phone shop, and stole livestock, sparking fear among residents in border communities.

Thursday’s Security Council meeting had in attendance top officials from the Nigerian Army, Air Force, Navy, Police, NSCDC, NDLEA, Immigration, Customs, Correctional Service, FRSC, ICPC, and NAPTIP. Governor Yusuf identified Shanono, Tsanyawa, Tudun Wada, Doguwa, and Gwarzo as priority areas requiring heightened security attention, while assuring affected residents of his administration’s commitment to protecting all communities across Kano State.
