Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Operation Lafiya Nakowa, have destroyed a major bandits’ hideout at TY Farm along the Takum–Wukari road in Taraba State, recovering a dane gun in the process.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, the operation followed credible intelligence on the activities of bandits around Unom, Yongogba, Tornyi, and Mbayongo villages in Takum Local Government Area.
The troops reportedly launched a clearance patrol through several communities, including Tor-Tser, Kofar Ahmadu, Tornyi, Unom, Mbayongo, and Yongogba, effectively combing the identified areas, adjoining settlements, and river lines.
During the mission, intelligence reports indicated that bandits had been sighted at TY Farm in Tati. Acting swiftly, the troops advanced through Sabon Gida Tati and engaged the criminals, who fled into the forest after being overpowered by the troops’ superior firepower.
Subsequent exploitation led to the discovery and destruction of the bandits’ main camp at TY Farm, effectively denying them a safe base of operations.
The clearance exercise, codenamed Operation Lafiya Nakowa, is part of ongoing efforts by 6 Brigade / Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), to flush out bandits and terrorist elements across Taraba State.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS, commended the troops for their swift response, courage, and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace and security in Taraba and urged residents to continue providing credible information to support military operations in the state.
