The result was declared around 3pm at Polling Unit 019, Agulu Ward 11, Anaocha Local Government Area — the same unit where Obi earlier cast his vote in the ongoing Anambra governorship election.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has defeated the Labour Party (LP) at the polling unit of former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
The result was declared around 3pm at Polling Unit 019, Agulu Ward 11, Anaocha Local Government Area — the same unit where Obi earlier cast his vote in the ongoing Anambra governorship election.
According to official figures from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, secured 73 votes, while the Labour Party’s candidate, George Moghalu, polled 57 votes. The ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) came a distant third with 38 votes.
The outcome has sent shockwaves across political circles, considering Obi’s stronghold on Anambra politics — especially in Agulu, his hometown, where he has consistently enjoyed overwhelming support.
During the 2023 presidential election, Obi, who flew the Labour Party’s flag, won Anambra State with over 95 percent of the votes, sweeping nearly all polling units across the state.
Despite his active involvement in mobilising support for the LP candidate ahead of Saturday’s election, the result from his polling unit suggests a possible shift in voter sentiment and the emerging strength of rival parties in the state.
