The Kogi State Government has commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing two indigenes of the state—Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff and Prof. Joash Amupitan as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement issued on Sunday in Lokoja, the Commissioner for Finance, Asiwaju Asiru-Idris, described the appointments as a source of pride and joy for the government and people of Kogi State.

According to Asiru-Idris, the elevation of the duo to such prominent national positions reflects the President’s confidence in the competence and integrity of Kogi indigenes.

He urged both appointees to remain focused, committed, and free from distractions in carrying out their new responsibilities, noting that their performance would further strengthen the state’s reputation.

“These appointments reaffirm President Tinubu’s inclusive leadership style and his recognition of talent from all parts of Nigeria,” the commissioner said, adding that the people of Kogi were grateful for the opportunity given to their sons to contribute to the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He expressed confidence that the new appointees would serve the nation with diligence, integrity, and commitment, living up to the trust placed in them.
