The Gombe State Executive Council has approved a total of ₦3.9 billion for major infrastructure projects, including a new Deputy Governor’s Office complex, a modern Fire Service Headquarters, and several other facilities aimed at improving governance and public safety.

Announcing the approvals after the council’s 50th meeting held on Monday at the Gombe Arena and presided over by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Usman Kallamu, said the new Deputy Governor’s Office would be relocated closer to the Government House.

According to Kallamu, ₦1.33 billion has been allocated for the construction of the new Deputy Governor’s Office, which will be built adjacent to the Government House at the site of the old Gombe Jewel Suites. He added that another ₦1.3 billion was approved for completing five mega colleges across the state.

In a move to strengthen emergency management and disaster response, the council also ratified ₦1.27 billion for a state-of-the-art Gombe State Fire Service Headquarters. The new complex will serve as a permanent, fully equipped base for fire officers who currently operate from temporary sites.

Additionally, ₦461.8 million was approved for the construction of a new Divisional Police Station in the Shehu Abubakar District, redesigned with modern facilities as part of the administration’s urban renewal initiative.

Recent budget trends in Gombe reflect a strong focus on capital development. The 2023 budget of ₦176.55 billion allocated ₦99.46 billion to capital expenditure, while the 2024 budget of ₦208.06 billion increased capital allocation to 58%, signaling the state’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure growth and modernization.
