The Lagos State Government engaged retired public servants on issues concerning healthcare and pension benefits during an interactive session on Tuesday at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.
The session, coordinated by the Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, and represented by Permanent Secretary Sunkanmi Oyegbola, aimed to obtain firsthand feedback from retirees about their welfare and ongoing state initiatives.
The forum offered former civil servants an opportunity to share their experiences, express concerns, and provide suggestions on post-service healthcare access, pension administration, and other support programmes.
Speaking at the event, Oyegbola underscored the government’s recognition of retirees as crucial contributors to Lagos State’s development. She reiterated the state’s commitment to ensuring timely pension payments and fostering continuous engagement with retirees through regular consultations and tailored programmes.
“The Lagos State Government acknowledges the pivotal role our retirees have played in shaping this state. This interactive session is part of our ongoing efforts to listen, engage, and address issues affecting our esteemed retirees,” Oyegbola said.
Attendees welcomed the initiative, describing it as a valuable platform for direct communication with the government. They raised questions on pension management, healthcare benefits, and opportunities for involvement in community and mentorship programmes.
The session concluded with assurances from the Head of Service, conveyed through Oyegbola, that the welfare of retirees remains a top priority and that mechanisms for effective communication and support would be strengthened.
The government also confirmed that such engagements would become a regular feature to ensure retirees remain integral to the state’s social and developmental framework.
