A Kaduna-based clergyman, Edwin Achi of Ebenezer Anglican Church in Ungwan Maijero, has reportedly died while in the custody of his abductors.

Achi and his wife, Sarah, were kidnapped from their residence in the Nissi community, located within Chikun Local Government Area, on October 28, 2025. Their abduction was widely reported the following day.

During negotiations, the kidnappers were said to have sent photos of the couple as proof of life while demanding a ransom of ₦600 million. The images showed them in visible distress, along with other abducted individuals.

A source familiar with the situation confirmed that Achi passed away while being held captive. However, there is still no clear information on the whereabouts or condition of his wife.

This development comes amid a series of violent incidents in Kaduna State, including an attack in Southern Kaduna where two police officers were killed inside a police facility.
