Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced his administration’s readiness to partner with Denmark across key economic sectors to advance development in the state. He made this known during a meeting with the Consul-General of the Kingdom of Denmark in Lagos, Jette Bjerrum, held at the Michael Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia. The governor highlighted areas such as agriculture, digital transformation, health, maritime development, and MSMEs as priority points for collaboration.
Governor Otti praised the Consul-General’s presentation, saying it aligns closely with the state’s ongoing reforms. He emphasized that his administration moves swiftly once objectives are clear, noting that implementation of agreed partnership areas would begin before the end of the year. He also directed state officials to commence preliminary work immediately and confirmed that a joint workshop with the Danish delegation would be held early next year to solidify the partnership framework.
Speaking on digital transformation, Otti stated that Abia has invested heavily in a data-driven governance model, including accurate records of farmers and farm locations to improve planning. He further highlighted reforms in health and education, noting that 35 percent of the state’s annual budget is dedicated to the two sectors. He mentioned ongoing upgrades of schools, 200 primary health centres, and the successful independent power project that now supplies 24-hour electricity in Aba.
Earlier, Bjerrum reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to deepening sub-national partnerships in Nigeria, citing food and agriculture, digital innovation, and strategic investments as key pillars of Denmark’s African engagement strategy. She underscored Nigeria’s critical position as a regional hub and emphasized Denmark’s interest in supporting data-driven and development-oriented initiatives. The Consul-General added that a follow-up workshop would help identify concrete areas for collaboration. Top Abia government officials, including commissioners and senior appointees, were also in attendance.kk
