The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), together with Renaissance Africa Energy Company and First Exploration & Petroleum Development Company (First E&P), has launched the Nigerian Engineering Olympiad (NEO), a national initiative aimed at encouraging engineering students to develop innovative solutions to practical challenges.

The competition targets final-year and postgraduate engineering students, providing them with a platform to transform academic concepts into projects that can have a real impact on society. The programme is supported by Enactus Nigeria and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).

Speaking at the launch, NCDMB’s Executive Secretary highlighted the gap between academic training and industry requirements, emphasizing that the Olympiad is a strategic effort to equip graduates with hands-on skills and reduce reliance on foreign expertise.

The Olympiad will feature multiple stages, including intra-school and regional competitions, mentorship sessions, prototype development, and a grand national finale slated for April 2026. Participants will receive guidance to refine their ideas, create functional prototypes, and explore opportunities to commercialize their innovations.
