Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has restated his administration’s uncompromising commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
The governor made the remark during a courtesy visit by the newly deployed General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major General Oluremi Fadairo. He noted that security remains the foundation of development, stressing that no investment can thrive in an unsafe environment.
“We know security is expensive, but we are prepared to make the necessary sacrifices to ensure our people are safe,” Otti said. “If citizens cannot sleep with both eyes closed, no amount of investment can yield results.”
Otti assured Major General Fadairo of the full cooperation of the state government and urged him to tour army formations and operational bases in Abia. He added that his government places premium on hard work and proactive investment in security rather than luck.
Earlier, Major General Fadairo, who is also the Commander of the South East Joint Task Force, Operation Udoka, pledged to deploy his experience and familiarity with the region to combat insecurity and criminal activities in Abia and the wider South East.
“Having served here as a young officer, I understand the terrain well. I plan to leverage that experience to help tackle security challenges and ensure peace across the state,” he said. The GOC also commended the governor for his continuous support to security agencies.
Abia Government Heightens Security Ahead of Christmas
Meanwhile, Abia State has intensified security measures ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Navy Commander MacDonald Uba (Rtd), disclosed this after the monthly Security Council meeting chaired by Governor Otti.
He said security structures across the state have been strengthened, with agencies placed on high alert and increased visibility expected in major locations.
“We are not taking anything for granted considering the security situation in the country,” Uba stated. “Residents can be assured of a safe and peaceful Yuletide.”
The meeting had in attendance heads of all security formations in the state and reviewed ongoing operations while adopting new strategies to boost public safety during the festive season.
