Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, will on Thursday, December 16, 2025, officially unveil the Abia State 25-Year Development Plan, one of the most defining legacy projects of his administration.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, announced this on Monday at the Government House, Umuahia, during a press briefing on the outcome of the weekly State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Otti.

According to Prince Kanu, the forthcoming presentation of the 25-Year Development Plan represents a major milestone for the administration.

He stated:
“The formal presentation of the 25-Year Development Plan will undeniably stand out as one of the most significant legacy projects of Governor Otti’s administration. The plan provides a deliberate and transformative roadmap for Abia State, anchoring our collective vision for economic resilience, infrastructural expansion, social advancement, and long-term security into the middle of this century.”

He explained that the Development Plan is built on six strategic pillars:

1. People and Resources

2. Growth and Stability

3. Sustainable Economy

4. Social Infrastructure and Inclusion

5. Governance and Reform

6. Cross-Sector Linkages

Prince Kanu noted that the plan is designed to unlock local potential, attract global investment, and drive the growth of an inclusive and vibrant economy. He added that it envisions a future characterized by modern, climate-resilient infrastructure, clean energy, digital connectivity, and sustainable urban planning.

He further assured that the plan will be anchored on strong institutions that uphold transparency, promote citizen participation, and ensure peace, security, and inclusive development.

“Ultimately, if implemented faithfully, this future-ready Development Plan will position Abia State among the leading economies in Nigeria,” he said.

The Commissioner also announced that the 2nd Abia International Trade Fair will begin on Tuesday, December 9, at the Trade Fair Grounds, with the opening ceremony scheduled for 11:00 a.m.

He disclosed that all 17 Local Government Areas in the state have secured exhibition stands to showcase products unique to their regions. Various SMEs from within Abia and beyond will also display their products.

“The Trade Fair promises to be a major event that will further consolidate Abia’s status as an economic and commercial hub,” he added.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Kingsley Anosike, recalled that before Governor Otti assumed office, the state already had a 30-year development plan introduced in 2020.

He explained that the current administration set up a team to review and update the plan due to the significant economic shifts that have occurred between 2020 and 2025.

“The 2020 plan was developed during the COVID-19 period, when the world was still recovering from the pandemic. Considering the economic turbulence and global changes over the last five years, it became necessary to reassess the framework and realign it with current realities,” Anosike said.

He added that the new development plan is notably different because it will be backed by legislation, making it more sustainable and future-proof.

The Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Mr. David Kalu, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, were also present at the briefing.
