An electric surge on Thursday caused a major fire at Rogo General Hospital in Kano State, destroying several offices and sections of the facility. The affected areas include the Physiotherapy Clinic, Dental Section, OPD, ACC/Card Room, DOT Office, and Laboratory Office.
The Kano State Fire Service responded to a distress call around 2:36 pm, deploying personnel from Karaye and Rogo fire stations. They found a one-storey building engulfed in flames, measuring approximately 400 by 400 feet. Preliminary investigations suggest that an electrical spark triggered the fire, though a full probe is ongoing to determine the exact cause.
Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution during the harmattan season, warning that fire-related accidents are more likely during this period. The Fire Service emphasized the importance of careful use of electrical appliances and vigilance to prevent future incidents.
No casualties were reported, but the destruction has disrupted hospital operations, with staff and patients having to adapt while repairs are planned. The incident highlights the need for stricter safety measures in public institutions across the state.
