Governor Alex Otti, OFR, has formally signed the Abia State 25‑Year Development Plan (2025‑2050) into law, presenting it as a legally binding roadmap meant to outlast his tenure. The ceremony took place at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, where Otti described the plan as a comprehensive guide for policy‑making, governance standards and resource allocation over the next quarter‑century.
He explained that the new framework builds on the state’s strengths, current realities and long‑term ambitions, setting clear priorities for public spending, institutional reforms, and human‑capital development. The previous 30‑year plan was revised to reflect recent challenges such as the COVID‑19 pandemic and shifting national policies that had rendered the old document obsolete.
According to Otti, past development plans faltered because they lacked legal backing, suffered from poor execution, failed to anticipate shocks, and were sometimes hijacked by private interests. He said the current plan addresses those gaps by being passed by the Abia State House of Assembly and signed by the executive, giving it a solid legislative foundation.
The governor expressed confidence that, anchored in law and disciplined implementation, the 25‑year blueprint will steer Abia toward sustainable growth and resilient development for generations to come.
