The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has mobilised 2,202 officers to strengthen security across Abuja ahead of Christmas and New Year festivities. The deployment, ordered by the FCT Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, places officers at places of worship, major highways, motor parks, recreational spots, and other public locations to ensure the safety of residents and visitors during the yuletide season.
According to the command’s spokesperson, the heightened security measures include increased visibility policing, intelligence‑led patrols, and close monitoring of potential trouble spots such as uncompleted buildings and shanties that may harbour criminal elements. Tactical units, rapid response squads, and both vehicular and foot patrol teams have been activated across the territory.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units have also been deployed to conduct routine sweeps at churches and other crowded venues. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant, obey the law, and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via official emergency lines.
This annual operation aims to provide a peaceful and secure festive period for all living in and visiting the Federal Capital Territory.
