Professor Onyebuchi Azubuike Kanario, Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, has attained a major national recognition following his election as Vice Chairman of the Committee of Chief Medical Directors of Federal Tertiary Hospitals in Nigeria.
The election took place during a statutory meeting of the committee held in Keffi, Nasarawa State, where heads of federal health institutions across the country converged to elect a new leadership that will steer the affairs of the body.
Prof. Azubuike’s emergence reflects the confidence reposed in his leadership capacity, professional depth, and administrative competence within Nigeria’s healthcare system. His appointment is also viewed as a strong endorsement of the growing relevance and performance of FMC Umuahia in national health governance.
The Committee of CMDs serves as a strategic platform for policy dialogue, institutional collaboration, and collective engagement with relevant authorities on issues affecting federal tertiary hospitals. With the new leadership in place, stakeholders anticipate renewed momentum toward improved coordination, advocacy, and service delivery across the nation’s public health institutions.
Industry watchers have described Prof. Azubuike’s elevation as well deserved, noting that his new role places FMC Umuahia more prominently on the national healthcare leadership map while reinforcing Abia State’s contribution to Nigeria’s medical administration.
