The office of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of carrying out coordinated searches on his offices and private homes in Abuja and Kebbi State.

In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, the office alleged that the EFCC operations took place shortly after Malami’s team publicly referenced Chapter 9 of the Justice Ayo Salami Judicial Commission of Inquiry Report. It claimed that EFCC operatives specifically searched for documents connected to that section of the report and did so without prior notification.

Describing the development as “deeply troubling,” Malami’s office suggested the raids were meant to intimidate and punish him following renewed calls for the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, to step aside over alleged bias. Chapter 9 of the Salami Report is said to contain findings involving senior EFCC officials, including Olukoyede, who served as secretary to the commission of inquiry.

The statement further warned that any harm to Malami or his associates would be blamed on what it described as a sustained pattern of harassment. It urged the public, media organisations, civil society groups, and professional bodies to scrutinise the timing and motive behind the raids and to press for the complete publication of the Salami Report in the interest of transparency.

The allegation comes amid an ongoing EFCC investigation into Malami over claims ranging from abuse of office to money laundering and matters connected to recovered Abacha loot. Malami has consistently maintained that the probe is politically driven and compromised by conflicts of interest.
