Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, has called on residents of the state to embrace tax compliance as a civic responsibility, stressing that taxation remains critical to sustainable development. Speaking during an engagement with Abians, the governor emphasised that those with the capacity to pay taxes must do so to support government programmes and infrastructure.
Governor Otti, however, assured citizens without steady income that his administration is focused on creating opportunities that will enable them to earn a living and contribute to the state’s revenue base. He noted that economic empowerment and job creation are central to his government’s reform agenda, aimed at lifting more people out of poverty.
The governor explained that revenue generated from taxes is being channelled into key sectors such as road construction, healthcare, education, and security. He maintained that transparent management of public funds would continue to guide his administration, adding that Abians are already beginning to see the impact of prudent financial governance.
Reiterating his message, Otti urged residents to see taxation not as a burden but as a partnership with government for shared progress. He assured the public that his administration would remain fair, inclusive, and people-oriented, ensuring that economic growth translates into improved living standards across Abia State.
