Nigerian football stars Taiwo Awoniyi and Esther Okoronkwo marked the Christmas season by giving back to communities across the country, bringing relief and joy to many families during the festive period.
Despite being away in England due to club commitments, Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi ensured his annual Christmas outreach reached thousands of beneficiaries in Ilorin, Kwara State, and nearby communities. Through the Taiwo Awoniyi Foundation, food items including rice, semovita, noodles, tomato paste and salt were distributed to widows, elderly residents and low-income households. The initiative was aimed at easing economic pressure and ensuring families could enjoy the Christmas celebration with dignity.
In Umuahia, Abia State, Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo personally joined residents on the streets, surprising motorists, traders and passersby with cash gifts on Christmas Day. Her spontaneous act of kindness drew smiles and excitement, as she wished recipients a merry Christmas and encouraged them to celebrate the season with hope.
The gestures by both footballers highlight the growing commitment of Nigerian athletes to support their communities, especially during festive periods, using their success to uplift lives and spread goodwill across the country.
