Wike Urges PDP to End Internal Turmoil or Risk 2027 Defeat

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership to urgently resolve its internal disputes as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections. He warned that continued internal instability could undermine the party’s chances of regaining major political offices if decisive actions aren’t taken.

Speaking during a media briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday, Wike expressed deep concern about the ongoing factional crises within the party, saying unresolved divisions threaten its electoral prospects.

According to him, “we have a leadership that is not focused,” and unless the PDP introspects and corrects its course, it is likely to face a significant setback in the 2027 polls.

Wike also criticised last month’s PDP National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, suggesting that internal controversies and power struggles—particularly tension between his camp and that of Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde—have further weakened party cohesion.

The PDP has been grappling with disagreements since the 2023 elections, with several members, including governors, defecting to rival parties. Wike’s remarks reflect growing concern among party stakeholders about the need for unity and strategic direction ahead of the next election cycle.
