The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) denied recent claims that it has released a timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, calling such reports false and misleading.

In a statement on Friday, January 2, the electoral body stated clearly that no official timetable or schedule for the 2027 polls has been issued. INEC emphasized that any such document circulating in the public domain did not originate from the commission.

INEC reiterated that it operates strictly within legal frameworks, particularly Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which requires the Notice of Election to be published not later than 360 days before a general election. The commission said this process has not yet begun for the 2027 polls.

The electoral body assured Nigerians that the official timetable and schedule will be released in due course, in accordance with both the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and the Electoral Act. INEC also urged the public and media houses to disregard unverified reports and rely only on information from its official platforms to avoid confusion.
