Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, has inspected the newly constructed Umuahia Central Transport Terminal, expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work as the project approaches completion.
During the inspection visit on Tuesday, Governor Otti toured key sections of the terminal, including the passenger waiting areas, loading bays, administrative offices, and security facilities. He noted that the project is designed to modernise urban transportation in Umuahia and improve safety, orderliness, and comfort for commuters.
The governor stated that the transport terminal forms part of his administration’s broader urban renewal and infrastructure development agenda aimed at decongesting city roads and enhancing economic activities. According to him, the facility will serve as a central hub for intra-city and inter-state transport services, helping to eliminate roadside loading and traffic chaos.
Governor Otti commended the contractors for adhering to specifications and timelines, while urging them to ensure that finishing works meet the highest standards before final handover. He also assured residents that the terminal would be fully operational soon and managed efficiently to deliver maximum value to the public.
Officials accompanying the governor disclosed that the project is over 90 per cent completed, with final installations and testing currently ongoing. They added that the terminal will also provide employment opportunities and support small businesses within the transport ecosystem once operations begin.
Residents and transport operators in Umuahia have welcomed the development, describing it as a major step toward transforming the city into a more organised and commuter-friendly urban centre.
