Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has expressed confidence that whoever succeeds him in 2031 will perform even better, saying his administration is laying a solid and sustainable foundation for the development of the state.
Governor Otti made the declaration during a grand reception service organised in his honour by the Assemblies of God Church, Okaiuga–Nkwoegwu, Umuahia North Local Government Area.
He said his administration is only at the beginning of its journey and that the era of aggressive development in Abia State has commenced, stressing that the long-standing setbacks that hindered the state’s progress have been overcome.
“We have just started. We are not even three years yet. You can imagine what will happen by the time we are done in 2031,” the Governor said.
“There is a time and a season for everything, and this is the season for the aggressive development of Abia State. The good news for Ndi Abia is that the curse that held us down has been broken.
“Whoever succeeds me will be better than me. So, when people think we are going to go back to the old ways, they must be dreaming. We have moved,” Governor Otti declared.
Governor Otti further stated that he believes strongly in Psalm 62:11, which says that power belongs to God, noting that human efforts can only succeed when it aligns with God’s timing.
“You can do everything you want to do, but if it is not God’s time, it will not work. And when it is God’s time, even if you are sleeping, God will wake you up,” he said.
Responding to requests made by the Church for a bus to support evangelism and land for a prayer camp, Governor Otti announced that the Church would receive a Hummer bus within the week, courtesy of Prince Dr. Arthur Eze, one of the guests at the event.
He also directed the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, Ph.D., to meet with the Church leadership and work out the modalities for securing land for the proposed prayer village.
The Governor, who appreciated churches across the state for their continued support of his administration, thanked the Assemblies of God Church for organising the reception in his honour.
Earlier in his remarks, the District Superintendent of Assemblies of God Church, Jerusalem District, Rev. Dr. Kenneth Ogbudu, described the reception as a historic moment of gratitude and appreciation.
He said Governor Otti is a transformational leader whose emergence has redefined governance in Abia State, noting that while many administrations had come and gone, the current administration represents a clear departure from the past.
“For the first time in the history of Abia State, governance is driven by competence, transparency, accountability, visible impact, and promises that translate into verifiable results,” Rev. Ogbudu said.
He highlighted the administration’s massive restoration of public infrastructure, noting that roads abandoned for decades have been reconstructed and reopened, connecting communities, easing transportation, stimulating commerce, and restoring dignity to both urban and rural areas.
Rev. Ogbudu added that the renewal of key road networks across Aba and other parts of the state has revived economic activities and repositioned Abia as a credible destination for investment.
Beyond infrastructure, he commended the administration for introducing a new culture of fiscal discipline and prudent resource management, noting that salaries and pensions are now paid regularly, restoring hope and dignity to workers and retirees.
“For the first time since the creation of Abia State, public funds are being managed with transparency, accountability, and confidence. Your Excellency has also shown uncommon courage in institutional reforms, strengthening governance structures and insisting that public office must serve the people, not personal interests,” he stated.
The event was attended by the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti; the Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha; the Deputy Speaker and members of the Abia State House of Assembly; the Chief of Staff to the Governor; the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu; Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Sir Chris Onwuegbu, among others.
