Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, has launched a widespread initiative to provide free school uniforms to pupils across his district. The effort aims to ease the financial burden on families and support education in the region.
The distribution reaches more than 300 primary schools spread across the local government areas of Umunneochi, Arochukwu, Isuikwuato, Ohafia, and Bende. It was officially kicked off in Leru, Umunneochi, with Kalu’s Senior Legislative Aide, Victor Ettie, leading the ceremony on behalf of the senator.
The free uniform programme builds on previous educational support from Kalu, including classroom renovations, textbooks, and school desks provided earlier in the district.
Teachers and pupils at the first beneficiary schools expressed gratitude for the support, saying the initiative is a positive boost for learning and school attendance. Beyond the uniforms, Kalu has also distributed free school bags and science textbooks in key subjects like Mathematics, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.
Officials say the programme reflects a broader commitment to improving educational infrastructure and access in Abia North.
