The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, hosted a farewell reception for Brigadier General H. M. Bello, the outgoing Commander of the 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ohafia, at his country residence in Ohafia. The event celebrated Brigadier General Bello’s dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to peace and security in Ohafia and across Abia State.
Engr. Emetu praised the outgoing commander for his role in promoting stability and supporting civil authorities, describing him as a disciplined officer whose contributions would leave a lasting legacy. “We pray that as you move on to other military formations, it will be a step toward greater achievements and responsibilities,” he said, assuring Brigadier General Bello of continued support from the people of Ohafia and the wider Abia State.
Speakers at the event, including Hon. Mba Nwoke and Chief Eleanya Ojuu Kalu, commended Brigadier General Bello’s people-centered approach to security, which strengthened trust between the Nigerian Army and the residents of Ohafia. Hon. Obinna Agwu Odum, Director-General of the Greater Ohafia Development Agency, along with local traditional rulers, also lauded his leadership and impact on the community.
In his remarks, Brigadier General Bello expressed deep gratitude for the warm reception and cooperation he received during his tenure. “I am sincerely thankful for the support, friendship, and hospitality extended to me by the government and people of Ohafia. This community has truly become a home to me,” he said.
The incoming Brigade Commander, Brigadier General A.M. Dikko, pledged to build on his predecessor’s achievements, emphasizing collaboration with the state government and local communities to sustain peace and security. He noted that effective security is a shared responsibility that requires collective effort.
