The biological father of Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey, Kingsley Ughelumba, has once again made an emotional appeal to be reunited with his four sons after nearly two decades of separation.

Speaking in a recent interview, Ughelumba said the long-standing estrangement followed the breakdown of his relationship with the children’s mother, Ebere Bassey. He explained that since the separation, he has had little to no contact with his sons, despite repeated attempts to reconnect.

According to him, his first three sons — Elvis, Mathew and Calvin — were born in Italy, while the youngest, Michael, was born in Ireland. The family later moved to London before marital disagreements led to their separation.

Ughelumba said the only meaningful contact he had with the children in recent years was when they required Nigerian passports. He claimed communication stopped again shortly afterward, especially following Calvin’s rise to prominence as a professional footballer.

Calvin Bassey, who currently plays for Fulham and represents Nigeria at international level, has previously stated that he grew up under the care of his mother and adopted her surname in appreciation of her sacrifices and support.

Despite travelling to different countries over the years in hopes of rebuilding the relationship, Ughelumba said his efforts have not been successful. He expressed deep regret over the separation and appealed for forgiveness, saying he still hopes for reconciliation with his children.

As of the time of this report, Calvin Bassey has not publicly reacted to his father’s renewed appeal.
