Nigeria’s leading shot put athlete, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, kicked off his 2026 season in commanding fashion by winning the men’s shot put at the Orlen Cup in Łódź, Poland. The African record holder recorded a best throw of 20.82 metres to top the podium at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver meeting, showcasing strong early-season form.
Enekwechi finished ahead of Romania’s Andrei Toader, who threw 20.55m for second place, while Serbia’s Armin Sinančević took third with 19.93m. His performance underlined his status as one of the world’s top shot put competitors and set a positive tone for his 2026 campaign.
This victory marked an improvement from his previous outings at the same meeting, having placed second in both the 2024 and 2025 season openers before finally sealing the top spot in 2026.
Enekwechi is a two-time African champion, a Commonwealth Games silver medallist, and a multiple African Games titleholder, continuing to build momentum as he prepares for upcoming continental and international competitions.
