Farouq Aliyu Explains APC’s 2027 Strategy of Fielding a Same-Faith Ticket to Consolidate Support

A senior All Progressives Congress (APC) member has shared his perspective on the party’s approach to the 2027 general election ticket. Farouq Aliyu explained that selecting a presidential and vice-presidential pair from the same religious background could be a strategic move to strengthen the party’s position in key regions.

Aliyu emphasized that voter trends and established support bases often shape such decisions. According to him, political calculations focus on maximizing turnout in areas crucial to winning the election, making certain ticket combinations potentially advantageous for the party.

His remarks come as discussions intensify across Nigeria regarding the role of religious representation in politics. While some argue that mixed-faith tickets reflect the country’s diversity and foster unity, others believe same-faith pairings can streamline party cohesion and consolidate core support.

Supporters of this strategy argue that it is a calculated political decision rather than a religious statement. Critics, however, call for more inclusive options to ensure broad appeal and prevent perceptions of exclusion among voters nationwide.
